Selling Collectible Books on s

If you are selling collectible books on okay make sure you do your research correctly. Several okayers lose out on profits by not advertising a book correctly. There are several websites that can help you with this task and a simple web search will reveal them. I am not allowed to mention those sites here as it is not within okay policy.
This of course does not apply to your normal selling of books such as paperbacks and the most popular best sellers. This applies to collectible vintage and antique books.
Auctions end all the time for books that were not listed correctly and so the seller loses out on profits. More often, sellers advertise their books as first editions when they are not.
If you believe you have a collectible or first edition book, do your research. Search the web for your book title and the terms "first printing points". Points are the specific attributes of a book that PROVES it is a first edition/first printing. Many books will state -first edition- or -first printing- or will have a full number line such as: 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 (varies). However, many many first editions can only by authenticated by recognition of the documented first printing points. You can also buy books guides that identify first printing points.
Periodically browse okay for collectible books getting high bids and pay close attention to what the sellers note in their auctions. Other sellers are your best teacher.
When selling a collectible book make sure you note the following:
Full title
Whether a dust jacket is present
Any and ALL damage, especially tears and handwriting
# of pages
Author and Copyright information
State the numberline if present
State any and ALL printing information, for ex: -first printing-
If the book is signed by the author
Any first printing points found from your research that are present in your book
Book Condition - very important!
The following is a good book condition guide to follow, however there are several others. You can view some by browsing through okay Stores for Books.
New-This book has been designated by the seller as brand new.
Fine-Near Fine- No defects, little usage. May show remainder marks. Older books may show minor flaws.
Very Good- Shows some signs of wear and is no longer fresh. Attractive.
Good-Average-Average used book with all pages present. Possible loose bindings, highlighting, cocked spine or torn dust jackets.
Fair-Obviously well-worn, but no text pages missing. May be without endpapers or title page. Markings do not interfere with readability.
Poor-All text is legible but may be soiled and have binding defects. Reading copies and binding copies fall into this category.
