Easy Formula for buying a window air conditioning!

Therevarious shapes, sizes, remote control units, thermostat controlled in 1 degree increments. Of these offerings it gees down to what features youperfer, or can't live without. The purpose of this guide is to give you a easy as pie formula for buying a window air unit.

First figure the square footage of the room to be cooled. X (Times It by 10), then add 3000.
Sweet and easy. Here is an example , suppose your room is 17x17, that would equal 289 square feet. Now take 289 x 10,that equals 2890! Take that and add 3000 to it. Which gees to 5890. So that's the BTU's needed to cool this particular room. Is this easy or what! There are other factors needing consideration, such as does the room face the south? Lot of windows? Your homes insulation? All in all this formula never fails, you will never be to cold nor hot. Also as you might have guessed finding a 5890 BTU , is pretty much out of the question, so just go with a 6000, the closest you can get with the formula.
The SEER rating will help with the energy efficiency, the higher the better. Also 220volts verses 110volts, the 220v will use less power wattage also. Whichever you choose, you can't go wrong with the sweet and easy formula. Also clean the filter regularly, more often in dusty conditions, such as out in the country on dirt or gravel roads. I myself regemend taking your window air out every year, get some window air cleaner, open the chassis, spray the cleaner in, let soak 20 minutes, then take just a plain old garden hose will do, spray it out until the water runs clear! ( Try to avoid the power cord )oil the fans, and motor, with a couple of drops of household oil, or equivalent. Let it dryout for about 6 hours. Then just pop in back in. No problems what so ever.

I've been running the same air condition, for the last15 years. It still works and cools just like the day it was bought.!!

Hope this helps you some. If so I've also a formula for central air. But that will be a different guide. See you on the "Cool" side of life!
