Volvo Remote / Key Fob / Keyless Entry Buying Guide

Volvo 850 Remote / Key Fob / Keyless Entry / Anti-Theft Remote Buying Guide - Getting The Right Remote That Will Work
I have written this guide because many sellers are providing misinformation in regard to which remotes are gepatible with which model years. These sellers state that it is the buyers responsibility to buy the right remote where all sales are final and they are not responsible for gepatibility.
IF POSSIBLE BE SURE TO MATCH P/N TO OLD REMOTE BEFORE BUYING. ALTHOUGH REMOTES WITH DIFFERENT P/N MAY LOOK IDENTICAL, REMOTES WITH DIFFERENT P/N WILL NOT WORK!
The following remotes are user programmable per instructions in owners manual (close and lock all doors, cycle key to II position (do not actually start vehicle), 5 times quickly then pressing remote button. Alarm light should illuminate to indicate remote has been programmed. If this does not work then confirm battery is good by testing with multi-meter or replace and confirm correct P/N and functionality.
For US '93-'94.5 Volvo 850 Models Typically the Correct Remote is P/N 3545653 For US '95-'96.5 Volvo 850 Models Typically the Correct Remote is P/N 9148646 For US Late '96-'97 850 Models, '96-'97 960 / S90, V90 Models Typically the P/N is 9442982
The following remotes are NOT user programmable and must be programmed at a dealer according to info I have read. A good reasonable dealer will typically charge no more than an hour of labor. Most dealers will do this at no charge if you are having other services performed.
For US S70, V70, C70 '98-'00 Typically The Correct Remote is P/N 9166200
BEWARE OF SELLERS OFFERING WRONG P/N, STYLE AND GENERIC REMOTES THAT CLAIM THEIR REMOTES ARE gePATIBLE WITH MODEL YEARS WHEN THEY ARE NOT. You will waste your money and they will tell you they are not responsible.
